This technique (TransPRK) is meant for people with a thin cornea or other kind of corneal defect, which cannot be treated with lasik technique.
This treatment is indicated for myopia until –8 dioptres, hypermetropia until +3 dioptres and astigmatism until 5 dioptres. The superficial cell cover (epithelium) of the cornea is removed with the Schwind Amaris laser, at the same time that the refractive defect is corrected, after which a protective contact lens is applied on top of the cornea.
The eye is not like “a football”, but more like a “rugbyball”. This produces a deformed image and can sometimes be combined with myopia or hyperopia.
